Team Ortho Care Physical Therapy Sponsors Boys Soccer Ortho Care Physical Therapy is proud to sponsor a Boys Soccer Team through the Grosse Pointe Neighborhood Club. The team began two years ago, when Adam Winkelman turned 3 years old, and joined the pre-school age group. Being an avid soccer player and fan, Apostolos Kerasiotis, DPT, is pleased to sponsor the team and has been assistant coaching ever since. Paul shares, "I was a coach on my son's teams and when Physical Therapy Assistant, Kathy Winkelman's son, Adam, voiced an interest it was an easy decision for me to step in and carry on the family tradition." Initially coaching focuses on discipline and keeping the team in the game and away from the playground equipment. As they mature, the coaching efforts turn toward developing team skills, passing, fielding and goalie. With each season, the boys have become more and more proficient and now at 5 years of age, kindergarteners all, the emphasis is on holding a position and passing rather than following the ball in a cluster. Photos attached show the team with Coach Rob Smith and Paul, going through their practice routines, passing, kicking to the goal, and throw-in's. The game between team OCPT and Fire held on September 23, 2007 at the Mason Elementary School Field ended in a tie score 2-2, with Jonathan Smith scoring both of the team's goals. All players contributed with their usual youthful zest and the game concluded with a sportsmanship, handshake of congratulations. The coaches gather the team for closing acknowledgements and they end in a huddle, shouting, "Go PT!" a great way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon, enjoying the sunshine, and the laughter of children at play.
